Member of the State Council Wang Yong Pays visit to CNMC Subsidiary in Zambia

On June 8, 2017 accompanied by Ambassador of China to Zambia, the visiting Member of the State Council of China Wang Yong visited CNMC subsidiaries in Zambia namely CNMC Luanshya Copper Mines (CLM), Chambishi Copper Smelter (CCS), and Zambia-China Economic & Trade Cooperation Zone (ZCCZ). President of CNMC Zhang Keli received Wang Yong in Zambia.

Wang Yong toured around the open-pit mine and electric-winning cells of CLM and  cobalt-copper matte magnetic line of CCS, which is the first production line in the world, and was briefed on the planning and development of ZCCZ. During his tour of the development of achievement of CNMC in Africa, Wang Yong affirmed fully of CNMC’s strategy in conducting overseas investment and development, and acclaimed the three CNMC subsidiaries as the fruits of China-Zambia friendship, and the successful practice of China and Zambia cooperating for mutual winning. He encouraged CNMC to keep good development, fulfill social responsibility, build a good image of Chinese enterprise, enlarge and strengthen enterprise capacity.

President of CNMC Zhang Keli expressed thanks to the State Council for its constant support and care, and reported the latest development, challenge, and plans for the future to Wang Yong. Zambia is one of the most important investment sites to CNMC. During the past years, CNMC has had advantages in risk control, cluster development, talent building, and cooperating with Zambian government and people for shared interests. So far, CNMC has invested over 2.6 billion USD in Zambia, and set foot in cooperation zone development, geological exploration, mining and concentrating, smelting, construction, trade, and business of mining rights, paid over 300 million USD, provided 14000 jobs, and donated over 20 million USD.

Wang Yong sang high praise for CNMC’s development in Zambia, and claimed that CNMC has made tremendous contribution in building a Chinese Brand in Africa and has established a good model for Chinese enterprise to go global. He hoped that CNMC would follow the idea President Xi Jinping has proposed in the “Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation”, and further enhance management level and make good use of resource and market, and deepen cooperation with African countries, put eyes on building a name card of Chinese enterprise in Africa, put production safety at the first priority, and follow laws and regulations of host countries.
